SAPPI LEARNERSHIP

Sappi South Africa was established in 1936 to provide consumers with locally made paper. Through the years, they diversified their production to meet  local demand for uncoated business and graphic papers, newsprint, packaging and specialty papers.

Sappi SA currently operates four mills with a combined output of 685,000 tons of paper, over a million tons of dissolving wood pulp, and 665,000 tons of paper pulp. A large percentage of their mill production is exported around the world.

Headquartered in Johannesburg, the main office manages the sub-divisions of Sappi Specialised Cellulose, Sappi Paper and Paper Packaging, and Sappi Forests. Regional functions including human resources, finance, board functions, technical and engineering, and more are handled in their Johannesburg offices.

From Sappi SA emerged Sappi Global, a huge, multi-national company operating in three continents. They sell millions of tons of top quality products ranging from dissolving wood pulp and paper products, to biochemicals and biomaterials, to customers all over the world.

Sappi South Africa Process Trainee Learnership Programme

Sappi SA offers thoroughly structured occupational training programmes developed for individuals interested in jump starting their career as a process trainee in a multinational company. The learnership programmes allow trainees to experience the best theoretical and practical concepts surrounding the technical aspect of the company’s operation.

Sappi SA works in conjunction with several FET colleges, offering courses that can lead to a professional qualification registered  at the National Qualification Framework.

A formal contract called a learnership agreement is agreed into by the learner, the employer, and the training provider. An employer can draw up a learnership agreement between him and an existing employee or a non-employee. When an employer enters into a learnership agreement with a non-employee, the employer is not legally bound to hire the learner at the end of  the programme.

Career Options

The Process Training learnership programmes offered by Sappi can help develop essential skills to any specialization starting with forestry to engineering.
